Gallery: Family bathroom with mixed tiles and bold black brassware
The owners of this home in Solihull wanted to create a contemporary bathroom scheme complete with the latest fixtures and fittings. With a neutral scheme in mind, our designer pushed the client’s brief to incorporate a number of textures and interesting design elements to make the most of the space.
With a grey and black theme already decided upon, our designer worked closely with the clients to choose tiles which would add interest. A grey terrazzo tile was picked as a key feature in the room and was positioned in the centre of the space to draw the eye in. A subtle marble-effect tile was used on the rest of the walls, creating a neutral contrast against the stand-out terrazzo design. To balance out the grey and black hues, warmth was added through the introduction of textured wooden floor tiles which also match the wooden door into the room.
With the colour scheme settled on, the designer then had to think about the best layout for the space. There were multiple areas of existing boxing to contend with but instead of trying to hide them, our designer turned them into a feature. The boxing behind the shower not only concealed the components and pipework, it also created some depth in the wall to add a storage niche. This boxing was replicated behind the WC, again allowing room for a storage niche but also creating symmetry within the room. Mood-lighting was incorporated through the use of LED strips around both boxed areas, to further enhance the design.
Working with a fairly compact space, our designer made sure to incorporate clever design tricks to make the most of the bathroom’s footprint. Both a wall-hung WC and vanity were chosen, creating the feeling of a more open room and making the floor area easier to clean. By opting for a built-in basin and vanity unit, the clients were able to save even more space, and incorporate plenty of added storage.
The room was completed with matt black brassware which really pops against the natural design of the tiles. The bold oval mirror features an in-built de-mister pad and backlit LED lights, adding an extra layer of lighting to the room. The black touches continue throughout the space, from the state-of-the-art powder-rain shower, all the way down to the toilet roll holder, creating a cohesive scheme.
